Phuket retirement visa case studies

Real Phuket retirement visa cases handled by our team, anonymised. Names changed, situations real. Each case shows what was nearly missed, what we did, and what the retiree did not have to redo. No fixed prices — every case is priced individually after the free pre-check.

Case 1 — German couple, Rawai, tourist stamp running out

Situation. A German couple in their early 60s arrived in Rawai on visa exemptions. They had not yet opened a Thai bank account and only 21 days remained on their stamp. Their pension came from Deutsche Rentenversicherung but no Führungszeugnis had been requested.

What we did. Same-day pre-check at our Rawai office. We chose the in-country Non-O route to avoid the Führungszeugnis dependency for the standard extension. Opened sole-name accounts at a Phuket branch known for fast long-stay account approval, sent the qualifying SEPA transfer the next day with correct foreign-inflow coding, then planned the seasoning calendar against the remaining stamp days. Filed the conversion at Phuket Immigration with TM30 and fresh bank letters, our team attending.

Outcome. Both converted to Non-O, then extended for retirement. Re-entry permits arranged before their first Germany visit so the visa survived departure.

Case 2 — British retiree, Patong, wrong-source bank letter

Situation. A UK retiree had been in Phuket six months, funded his Thai account from Wise. The Thai bank logged it as a domestic inflow. Application was bounced at the immigration counter for "wrong source" on the bank letter.

What we did. Pre-check identified the issue immediately. Arranged a SWIFT transfer from his UK bank for the qualifying amount, kept the Wise wallet for daily spending only. New seasoning calendar built. Switched to a Phuket branch used to UK-source long-stay accounts, requested the bank letter inside the office's tight window.

Outcome. Extension approved on the next visit. The fix took weeks, not months, because the underlying account stayed open and the seasoning re-clocked from the correct SWIFT inflow.

Case 3 — Australian couple, Cherngtalay, dependent spouse route

Situation. Husband 62, wife 47. Australian marriage certificate had never been apostilled. They assumed the dependent route was automatic.

What we did. Confirmed dependent Non-O for the wife was the right structure but blocked on the marriage certificate. Ran the AFP National Police Check and DFAT apostille on the certificate in parallel with the husband's retirement extension. Filed the husband's retirement extension first; lodged the dependent application as soon as the legalised certificate landed.

Outcome. Both legal long-stay within the same quarter. Renewal dates aligned so they extend together each year.

What the cases have in common

  • The pre-check caught the real blocker before money or paperwork moved.
  • The bank-side trail (foreign inflow + seasoning + fresh letter) is where files actually pass or fail — not the immigration counter.
  • Phuket-specific branch and office habits matter; the same file fails or passes depending on routing.
