Preparing the right documents is the most critical step for your Thailand retirement visa. Standard documents include a valid passport, proof of funds (bank letter, statements or income evidence), photos to spec, and proof of registered address (TM30). Depending on the path you may also need health insurance, a medical certificate or a police clearance.
Phuket Immigration is strict on format and timing, not just on which documents exist. A correct document presented in the wrong form or on the wrong day is treated as missing. The bank letter, for example, usually must be issued within the office's accepted window — often the same day you file.
Core documents (almost every case)
- Passport — enough remaining validity and blank pages; current visa/entry stamp and TM6 if applicable.
- Proof of funds — fresh bank letter plus updated passbook (balance method), or certified income evidence, or a combination.
- TM30 receipt — proof your address in Phuket is registered.
- Application forms & photos — correct form for your path, photos to the exact specification.
- Proof of address — lease/rental contract or equivalent the Phuket office accepts.
Path-dependent documents
- Health insurance — generally required for the Non-O-A at a set coverage level; the in-country Non-O extension often does not require it, but this changes.
- Police clearance — typically for the Non-O-A applied from your home country.
- Medical certificate — required in some cases/paths.
- Marriage certificate — legalised/translated, if a spouse applies as a dependent.
Standard Document Checklist
- Passport (minimum validity usually 6-18 months depending on path)
- Current visa/stamp (if applying in-country)
- Entry stamp / TM6
- TM30 or official address proof
- Passport photos
- Financial evidence (Bank letter/bank book showing required funds)
- Health insurance (if applying for O-A or O-X)
- Medical certificate (if required by embassy)
- Police clearance (if required by embassy)
- Marriage certificate (if spouse/dependent case)
Note: Requirements may vary depending on nationality, current visa status, immigration office, timing, and official rule changes. We review each case individually before advising.
Notice: The exact list, formats and which path needs insurance or police clearance vary by nationality, embassy and current local practice in Phuket. We confirm your precise checklist in the free pre-check so nothing is prepared twice.
Common document mistakes
- Bank letter timing — issued too early; it usually needs to be fresh.
- Missing TM30 — address in Phuket not registered with immigration.
- Wrong photo specification — size, background or recency off-spec.
- Name mismatches — spelling differs across official documents.
